The edge markings can form complete shapes when the cards are placed side-by-side. Correctly completed shapes will be either completely red or completely black.

All four cards should be used to make four different arrangements.

Try making all of one shape at a time. E.g. arranging the cards so that all three crescent shapes are completed with will leave the cards in a specific arrangement.

Have you worked out the significance of the different card arrangements?

Take note of the overall shape the cards make as each arrangement is completed.

Have you identified four letters that can be used to spell the one word answer?

The order of shapes shown in the middle of each card, is the order you should arrange the letters resultant of each shape.

Arranging the cards so all the crescent shapes are complete leaves the cards in the shape of a giant “T”. Doing the same for the circles makes the cards form an “O” shape. The squares lead to an “I” shape. The triangles result in an “L” shape. The answer is TOIL.

This puzzle will make use of four cards: All of the nines.
